Role Purpose
The Project Engineer will participate with and frequently lead key
aspects of projects as part of T&D project teams consisting of members
from various groups and disciplines across a number of areas within
Kirby Group Engineering and externally. The Project Engineer, in
conjunction with the PM and project QS, will be responsible for all
aspects of T&D projects from initial tendering, through contract
award, detailed design, site installation, commissioning, energisation
and successful handover. The role will require an adaptable and agile
individual who will work with various sections across the entire
business, with a particular emphasis on the HV electrical elements of
M&E projects. While the role will be primarily focusing on M&E
installations and projects, the successful applicant will be part of
the transmission and distribution (T&D) engineering team affording
them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience on

Electrical Engineer Responsibilities
In conjunction with your project team, you will be responsible for the
execution of various stages of a project as follows:
Identify, undertake and manage key detailed design tasks
Initiate and manage the sub-contracting of specialist design / studies
Ensure that technical issues are identified and resolved without delay
Review quotations for the supply of material to confirm adequacy and
technical suitability
Be aware of, manage and mitigate commercial risk to the company
Process internal procurement from equipment enquiries, requisitioning
& monitoring manufacture through to delivery to site whilst
maintaining a comprehensive audit trail
Prepare technical submittals for approval to the client, coordinating
inputs from other parties where required
Work with the project PM, civil engineer and QS to prepare
sub-contract packages
Attend & record regular supply chain and project progress meetings to
ensure that progress is monitored & maintained within the overall
construction programme
Liaise with the project team & supply chain to ensure correct
operation of the plant on site & successful handover
Monitor & record project progress against the construction programme
Compare Tender drawings to Construction drawings and advise of any
changes
Work closely with the relevant PM to ensure that all variations are
notified to the project QS
Ensure that the Clients management tools are updated as set out in the
contract documentation
Prepare and hand over all relevant documentation in the form of a
safety file at the end of each project
Undertake testing, fault investigation, diagnostic activities and
rectification of faults within your competence
Provide technical support and direction, within your competence, to
Kirby T&D Project Team members, including the application of technical
standards
Work with the project team to prepare design risk assessments as
required contractually and under legislation and provide technical
input, where required, of method statements & all aspects relating to
Health & Safety on site
Promote a positive safety culture and safe working environment
Managing the people
Review with the project manager the allocation of resources & general
progress
Motivate the project team
Managing the Client and other external relationships
Develop a strong & maintain an excellent working relationship from the
start to the completion of the project
To act as an ambassador with any stakeholders involved with the
project
Meet and exceed the contractual requirements delivering on time,
safely & to the highest quality
Testing & Commissioning
Develop, with the commissioning team, a project specific commissioning
plan, amending as required following input from the Client and / or
System Operator
Attend Commissioning & Energisation coordination meetings as required
Provide (and coordinate with external parties where required)
technical support and address faults as required
Day-to-Day Control
Provide technical support and direction, within your competence, to
Kirby T&D Project Team members, including the application of technical
standards
To undertake other activities which the Company may reasonably require
to be undertaken on a temporary basis which are within an

To report progress and/or problems to the Kirby Management team as
appropriate
Necessary requirement of the Electrical Engineer
3rd level Qualification in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineerig

Professional and commercial acumen and be capable of representing
Kirby at a senior level in meetings
Detailed knowledge of power engineering, including technical and
installation requirements
Detailed knowledge of power system operation and development

BEng Engineering (appropriate course content)
Desired competencies / special role requirements
Appropriate IEng, CEng, PEng, Eur Ing or working towards same
Experience working for or with DNOs or TSOs in the UK or Ireland
